Who we are

The Information Expansion Lab is the research arm of Break Into Tech. Our goal is to empower anyone to learn in-demand tech skills by contributing to real scientific research projects.

Our researchers learn and develop tech skills for free by participating.

We're developing new ways to explore education, work, and science.

Our work

The The Information Expansion Lab recently developed ITEM, a new cosmological model that suggests space expands to accommodate increasing structured information (rather than dark energy).

We've validated our model against the latest cosmology data from the DESI DR2 data release.

Our result: a clear, testable alternative to dark energy; the Information-Theoretic Expansion Model (ITEM).

You can read a draft of our working paper here.

How does our model compare?

Universe size vs. time Two similar growth curves: ΛCDM and ITEM. Cosmic time since Big Bang (billions of years) → Relative size of the universe
